Triptych begins

eek Triptych begins today and I still haven’t got any tickets even though I’ve known about it for ages. I’ve missed out on The Silver Jews which sold out pretty quick. So I’ll be making do with the video of Silver Jews – Trains Across the Sea live at Ottobar on youtube. I’m gonna try and get to Sun Ra Arkestra on Friday at Liquid Room in Edinburgh and maybe Buck 65 and Tunng at ABC in Glasgow on Saturday. There’s still tix for Aphex Twin on Sunday in Glasgow but I’m a going to Beltane instead. The Triptych player has a bunch of tracks from artists playing at Triptych and some other random gems.

You can enter the draw for tickets to Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Dundee now. Great that I don’t have to listen to Chris Moyles at breakfast anymore to find out how to get hold of tickets. I can’t believe he gets paid so much. I guess loads of people must think he’s great but not me. I hate the old whacky breakfast host routine.

IE7 beta preview no go Opera beta 9 go!

yikes I finally got round to installing IE7 beta preview and I managed to use it for a couple of minutes before I had to kill it in task manager. The default Microsoft IE7 tour page opened a new window on me….urgh tabs dammit tabs. The window chrome wasn’t refreshing and it was just being a pig. I guess it is a beta preview not even a beta but I expected more after this length of time. I’ve kinda got used to beta’s being sweet I guess. Opera 9 beta is lovely.

Update: Internet Explorer Beta 2 (not a preview) is out now and it’s much better for me at least.

Fat Freddy’s Drop at Garden Party

Fat Freddy’s Drop are playing Garden Party in Ireland on Bank Holiday Sunday 4th June as part of their UK summer tour. The gig is in an 18th century walled garden at Ballinlough Castle. Asian Dub Foundation, The Orb, Toots & the Maytals, DJ Marky, Louie Vega, Scratch Perverts are playing too and there’s an insect circus!! all for 65 euros chur! I might drive round Ireland for the rest of the week or something.

Current plan is All Tomorrow’s Parties 19th, 20th, 21st May then drive round France for the rest of the week then head to Bristol for Fat Freddy’s Drop on the 27th May. Then I guess maybe go to work for a week, then go to Ireland for a week, then maybe go to work some more then do some sort of midnight sun island hopping ferry jaunt to the Orkney’s, Shetlands and onto Scandinavia and the Baltics.

Whoever stole Hopepa’s prized King Silver-Sonic trombone out of his car in Grey Lynn – give it back!

Flaming Lips make me wanna play hack

All those yellow balloons bouncing round everywhere…oh how I long for a good game of hack. Anyone in Edinburgh who stumbles across this and fancies a game hit me up; anyone in NZ who fancies a hack come visit – winter is for suckers and I have a futon in the boxroom.

The Flaming Lips put on a great show. I came in from getting a beer and Wayne had descended in a big space bubble thing and was crowd surfing in his bubble. Pretty cool – he gets to crowd surf without munters trying to rip his clothes off. Not that Flaming Lips punters would do that. Over post gig beers we came to the conclusion that if you like the Flaming Lips you’re probably a nice person.

The set started with Race for the Prize, had three tracks off the new album At War with the Mystics : yeah yeah yeah yeah song, Free Radicals and The WAND, Yoshimi pts 1&2, Do you realise?, She don’t use Jelly and some more I can’t remember. The encore was a cover of Warpigs, nice and heavy but lacking the guitar solowank. I could’ve done with a few more songs for the encore personally…maybe Fight Test, Mr Ambulance Driver, or A Change at Christmas would’ve been cool seeing as half of the stage was full of santas. A Machine in India would’ve gone down a treat with me too but you can’t please everyone. Still one song for an encore wtf???

The Go! Team were cool too but the rest of the crowd didn’t seem too excited. I’ll be keen to see them again anyhoo.

Had a rather good beer at The Blue Blazer after – An Teallach from Ullapool. I might go visit sometime.

Now I must sort some Triptych tickets….Silver Jews have already sold out dammit!

Threadless have some new tees and reprints out too. I just got Talk to me – my favourite track off Kiss-Unmasked
